We’re here to help.

Please complete the form and follow up with an email only after you have worked through all other sources of placement. Some of the questions may seem intrusive but are meant to be as informative as possible so we can find the best home for your pet.

Please remember, this form is for email contact information. Our intake coordinator will contact you to arrange a suitable time to surrender your pet. Once the surrender form is submitted, we make arrangements for a foster home. This means KDR is making a commitment to you and your pet to take care of its needs both financially and emotionally. This may take a day or two so please let us know if this is an emergency placement that needs to happen quickly. Be sure you are ready to surrender before submitting the form as KDR does not return pets to previous owners once surrendered. KDR provides complete vetting including vaccines, spay/neuter, dentals and needed medical care. We have volunteers that home dogs, feed, bathe, transport to the vet, and help dogs recover. If you are only needing a boarding facility, we recommend contacting one. If we have space, and your pet is utd and neutered our fee for boarding is $35 per day. You may contact kydoxierescue@aol.com for information on boarding.

If you are surrendering your pet because you cannot find an apartment or home that allows dogs please visit these websites:

Surrender Information

Several times a week, we receive calls or emails from dachshund owners who feel they must surrender their pet for one of the following reasons:

1. We now have toddler
2. I am moving where dogs are not accepted
3. I've lost my job or my home
4. I work long hours and don't have time for my dog
5. I can't afford my pet's medical expenses

At KDR, we feel pets are family members and should remain in their homes with their families until they die from old age. Families have a responsibility to make choices that provide for their pet's care throughout their life. Only extreme circumstances should require a pet to be surrendered by his or her family including an owner's health or death, or a back injury that the family just cannot afford to fix.

We only place dogs on our site that have been surrendered to KDR.   Please contact us at kydoxierescue@aol.com for information.

Please remember, our priority is to rescue shelter animals that have 5-7 days before euthanasia/death

Dogs in shelters receive priority for that reason. Owner Surrender animals, may be put on a waiting list until space at KDR becomes available. We may require a fee to accept an Owner Surrender pet as it costs to feed, board and care for your pet even if it is up to date on shots and neutered. If your pet has behavior problems, he or she may require a professional animal behaviorist to retrain your dog.

We offer owners resources in their efforts to solve problems so they may keep their pet and provide support for any effort an owner makes in finding another home for their pet.

We are not here, however, to provide euthanasia for your pet. If your pet is seriously ill, please take him or her to your Vet. There are programs available to help you pay for the cost of treatment.
